Schiavetti, Corgan, DiEdwards and
Nicholson, LLP is a twenty-two attorney law firm with nine partners.
We have two fully staffed regional offices in the
Metropolitan area, located in Manhattan and White Plains, and also maintain
an office in Garden City for the convenience of clients on Long Island.
Rated "av" by Martindale-Hubbell, the firm has a
twenty-five year history of successfully defending
individuals, municipalities and corporate entities based on four hallmark
qualities that have contributed to the firm’s success throughout the
years:
The foundation of the firm’s management is based on a
team concept whereby a partner closely supervises a team of associates
consisting of a senior associate and a more junior associate. Cases are
assigned in consideration of the venue, the office or residence of the
client and the individual experience, particular knowledge and skills of the
various attorneys. Because the system provides close supervision of each
team and case assigned, cost-containment and continuity of effort is
maximized. Also, the team is
able to develop long-lasting relationships with clients, expert witnesses
and judges and is thoroughly familiar with local courts and their
idiosyncratic practices. The
firm maintains computerized systems for scheduling, legal research, medical
research, word processing and accounting, thereby enhancing the management
of each and every matter assigned to us. Defense litigation places a premium on experienced,
well-prepared attorneys who can deliver a vigorous and an effective defense
for their clients. While
successful trial technique and ability is critical, equally important is the
effective use of pre-trial procedures that can often operate to curtail
litigation. Every one of our
files is carefully analyzed to assess its potential for procedural or legal
dismissal, so that our clients and their principals are effectively
counseled regarding their options at the earliest possible stage.
We have a long record of successful summary dismissals upheld on
appeal. Behind every successful trial lawyer are the
largely-unheralded professionals who do the research, the overnight trial
memos, the newsletters and lectures on new trends and techniques that make
the trial lawyer effective in court and enhance the quality of the
representation provided to the client. Because our firm stays constantly
abreast of the latest developments in the law and local practice, its
lawyers are able to effectively handle pleadings, discovery matters and
depositions. This level of preparation results in lower litigation costs
and assists us in disposing of cases expeditiously and appropriately. Nothing is more effective in controlling the spiraling costs of litigation than preventing it. To that end, we have conducted risk management seminars geared toward individual practitioners, institutions and professional organizations. For hospital clients, we have conducted “in service” lectures in all areas of medicine and have also conducted elaborate malpractice seminars involving mock cross-examination.
